Each quarterly, thematic issue of the National Dropout Prevention Newsletter brings
you current programs and resources that can enhance and support your dropout prevention efforts.

An Electronic Newsletter
The Dropout Prevention Update is a monthly publication containing Internet links to the
latest information on grants, policy, the 15 effective strategies, and resources related to
at-risk youth. New members should send their e-mail address to
ndpc@clemson.edu to subscribe.

The Journal of At-Risk Issues provides a venue for scholars to share their research
and applications about issues related to youth from at-risk situations.
The International Journal on School Disaffection brings together the latest thinking
and practice from academics and practitioners world-wide working with at-risk youth in education.

A National Leader in Issues Related to Dropout Prevention
Since 1986, the National Dropout Prevention Network has been working to improve opportunities
for all young people to fully develop the academic, social, work, and healthy life skills needed
to graduate from high school and lead productive lives. By promoting awareness of successful
programs and policies related to dropout prevention, the work of the Network and its members has
made an impact on education from the local to the national level.
The National Dropout Prevention Network is the membership arm and guiding body for the work of
the National Dropout Prevention Center. With over a decade of experience as a positive force
for change for thousands of young people, together the National Dropout Prevention Network and
Center will give you the LEADING EDGE.
Information Resources and Clearinghouse for Dropout Prevention
The Center is the repository of the most current information on dropout prevention,
giving you the best information in a variety of ways:

Research-based, yet practical, publications based on the successful work of practitioners
and researchers from the field;

Personal assistance with finding the answers you need, when you need them; and
-
Our Web site, containing the latest statistics,
model programs, effective strategies information, and other useful links and articles that will
continue to help you find the answers.
Professional Development and Technical Assistance
The National Dropout Prevention Center provides Network members with many outstanding
opportunities to learn how to improve their work in dropout prevention through its programs
and activities, including:

Hosting
conferences and institutes, including the annual National
Dropout Prevention Network Conference and America's
At-Risk Youth National FORUM;

Conducting
customized leadership and staff development programs; and
-
Sponsoring
topic-specific institutes on such issues as service-learning, alternative
education, mentoring, multiple intelligences, and school safety.
Action Research and Demonstration Projects
There are several ways the Center is actively involved in improving programs and services
provided to youth and families in at-risk situations, including:

Conducting
third-party evaluations promoting the accountability of effective practices;

Providing
project leadership in local and multistate demonstration projects; and
-
Developing
research-based tools for use in improving teaching and learning.

As a Network member, you will have the opportunity to:

Publish
your programs, research, and opinions in the Newsletter, the refereed Journal, the web site,
or a wide variety of Center publications;

Present
workshops or seminars with preferred program placement at Center/Network
national conferences and institutes;

Lead
the national effort to help all young people succeed by actively serving in topic-specific committees;
-
Network
with other leading edge professionals who, like you, care about the future of our youth; and
-
Collaborate
with the Center or other Network members on grants and other joint projects.
Two Ways to Join
-
Institutional Membership –
School districts, community-based organizations, national, state or local agencies, family or
youth service organizations, foundations, or business-related organizations can become
Institutional Members for $285 annually.

Individual Membership –
Concerned educators, social workers, policymakers, researchers, risk-prevention specialists,
youth service providers, or community leaders can become Individual Members for $75 annually
(Full-time students: $35).
